I am rubbish at updating

Hey Guys!

Sorry, I know it has been a while since I posted, again.

I am sooo busy training that I don’t really get much time to come on here, or perhaps I just can’t bare more of anything exercise related.

I have had another busy week training.

Today (16/08) I did somewhere between 4 and 5 miles.  The ruddy sat nav watch lost the signal, for the first time ever on that route.  You can see where it loses sync on the map – http://connect.garmin.com/activity/44827323.

Yesterday (15/08) I did 15 miles on the bike,  again a sat nav mishap, this time it was, forgetting to press start.  Thankfully on the on-bike computer saved the day. http://connect.garmin.com/activity/44587099.

Saturday (14/08) The day after the night before, pretty hungover with little sleep, but somehow I did a pretty speedy 4 mile run – finally did a sub 8 min mile run.  4 miles in 32 minutes. http://connect.garmin.com/activity/44437695.  I followed this with a 30 minute swim at the gym.

I couldn’t train on Thursday and Friday, had work things and weddings to attend.  To be honest, my knees appreciated the rest I think, and that is probably why I did such a quick 4 miles on Sunday!

Wednesday was a rest day.  So just went for a swim – pool was full of idiots, which cut my swim short.  Swimming lanes are not for splishy splashy, eff off.

Tuesday (09/08) was 10 miles on the bike after work – http://connect.garmin.com/activity/43986211

Monday (08/08) was a pretty awful 4 mile run – really painful shins! http://connect.garmin.com/activity/43849942

Saturday (07/08) – I did another pretty quick 4miles, and again had a slight hangover.  Perhaps getting trashed before the GNR may be the way forward? http://connect.garmin.com/activity/43463994

Friday was a rest day but on Thursday (05/08) I did a 3 mile run, it was pretty bloody hellish, really painful shins. http://connect.garmin.com/activity/43265286

Thursday (04/08) I did the longest run of the training so far.  8 miles around Trafford Park, Salford Quays and Castlefield. http://connect.garmin.com/activity/43155610.

Now you know why I haven’t had the energy to post any updates!

Busy Weekend!

2010 August 4
by aaroncornish

Hey All!

Have had a very busy weekend of exercise!

Thursday – I went for an 11 mile ride, the usual after work route around Trafford, Chorlton, Stretford and back through Trafford Park and Salford Quays – here is the info – http://connect.garmin.com/activity/42315829

Friday – I actually enjoyed a day of rest! Hoorah!

On Saturday the training plan stepped up a gear (much to my horror) and deemed it necessary for me to do a 7mile run! Dutifully, I obliged, even though it went against every bone in my body, most of which were in pieces by this point.  I decided to go for a run up to Man United and back through the delights of Trafford Park and Salford.  Here is the route on Garmin Connect  - http://connect.garmin.com/activity/42527691 – yeah that’s right 1293 calories!! I quickly replenished those with a lovely Moroccan Tagine – which you can find here in case you are interested.

On Sunday I headed down to Castlefield to have a crack at the Sky Ride! A great idea, they close off a route around the city centre to traffic and open it up to cyclist.  I did have some observations, kids are bloody dangerous and like nothing more than barging you off the road, or wrapping themselves around your spokes, boys riding girls bikes is still funny, and Manchester badly needs to resurface it’s roads!  I also made a new discovery, you ride much further if the man in front has a fit ass – I ended up doing the route 2 and a half times! 23 miles in all!

On to Monday – I needed to do 4 miles, but also needed to do some weights, so I headed down to the gym and hit the treadmill.  Frig me they are boring!  It was the longest, and most painful 4 miles ever.  I really do think that treadmills are horrendous for shin splints, that 4 miles was more painful than any road run! I won’t be dabbling with them again.

Last night I did 13 miles on the bike, not really what I would call a rest day.

Tonight I have an 8 mile run in store, and I am really not looking forward to it! Wish me luck

Super quick 5 mile!

Went out for a run this evening, really didn’t want to and was hoping to use the pouring rain as an excuse, but as per usual it stopped, just when I needed it most! Still, at least my iPod was working this time!

Did the usual Man City loop but added a little flourish at the end, the travelator, Jutland Street.  For those that don’t know it – here it is on G maps -

I know it might not look much from there, but it is a bastard, especially after 4.5 miles of running.

Here is the route on Garmin http://connect.garmin.com/activity/42191741

4 miles – even though the Garmin lies!

Hey All

Well I was meant to run last night, but after a very long working weekend I was just too knackered.

To try and make up for some of the missed running I did an extra mile on the 3 mile run that I was meant to do tonight!

Wasn’t too difficult at all tonight really, despite the air being quite muggy still.

Here is the route and stats, couldn’t get a satellite signal so the watch missed the first 3/4 of a mile or so.

Oops, not posted for a while!

Well, sorry, I have been busy.

I have cut back on the runs and have been icing the shins every day!

It seems to have worked a little. I went for a 10k/6mile run on Saturday. The time wasn’t great, but all things considered (one of them being a slight hangover) it wasn’t too shabby. http://connect.garmin.com/activity/41579353

I was meant to do 4 miles tonight but was just too shattered after getting to bed at 2am last night thanks to the Key 103 Summer Ball.  To be fair, the amount of times I had to run up and down the stairs to sort tech problems throughout the day probably means I did not far off 4 miles ;)

I am going to do 4 miles after work tomorrow!

Shins still awful!

Shins were still very painful last night so decided to skip a run and do some swimming instead.  Did 40 lengths of the pool.

Much the same story tonight, so going to skip training run and get some ice on them.

Hopefully these few days off will help sort out my shins or at least lessen the pain! doh

Going off plan!

Oh dear – as expected, the shin splints are getting worse.  To the point they actually kept me awake last night.

To give my poor legs some recovery time I have decided to skip tonight’s five miler, I am not going to move it to tomorrow either, giving my poor legs 3 days off in a row.  I will probably do 20 miles on the bike tomorrow, just to burn off some calories without stressing my shins.

Would love to hear if anyone has had a similar problem, and how the overcame it.  I am hoping the issue will get better when I lose a bit of weight.  I think the problem is almost certainly linked to excess weight smashing into tarmac.

On the plus side, it is absolutely chucking it down tonight, so at least I avoid a soaking.

Pretty decent 5 miler!

Well, turns out that the cake I had this afternoon was some kind of iced rocket fuel!

I did a 5 mile run in pretty record time – here are the stats.

I decided to use the heart rate monitor for my Garmin Sat Nav watch, expecting it to scare the shit out me, weirdly my hate rate system pretty good.  I actually found it pretty hard to get it over 160bpm, so I am really going to have to try hard to get it into the fat burning zone on my next run!

Tomorrow is my rest day – pretty ruddy glad to be honest. I think I will just have  a cheeky 40 length swim, and maybe take the bike out for a few miles.

Pay up or be badgered – forever!

Weekends aren’t just about gin and BBQs – apparently

I was under the impression that weekends were set aside for fine gin, and the occassional grilling of minced dead animals!  According to my training plan I was wrong, very wrong!

Thankfully I didn’t drink on Friday night and managed to do my 8k on Saturday morning with relative ease – here are the stats.

Sunday’s run was a different story.  I had planned, rather too optimistically perhaps, to do 3 miles on Sunday morning.  Instead I spent the morning in my bed, gin sweating out of my pores! This was not looking good.  We spent the afternoon and early evening entertaining friends with a fantastic roast dinner (oops) and before I knew it, everyone had gone home and it was 8.30! Too late to run for sure!  Yeah, sofa time!

So far I have stuck to the plan 100% and the guilt soon started to rack up, until I couldn’t take it any more! I spent some time (3 minute, tops) trying to rearrange my week and training plan, but it was no good.  I had to do this run – and I did – here is the the route, you can follow my misery through every turn!

Back to today! I ate cake, too much cake and I am currently experiencing a sugar come down on a biblical scale! Tonight’s 5 mile run is looking to be fun!
